Where Brighton comes to find its fabric.

Our original shop, with more than 1000 fabrics under one roof, staffed by people who sew for a living.

OUR TEAM

"We don't just sell fabric. We sew with it."
---
Every member of the Brighton team is a professional seamstress. That means when you ask whether a fabric will hold a French seam, or whether this weight of linen will work for wide-leg trousers, you'll get an honest answer — not a guess.

Come in with a pattern, a project, or just an idea. We'll help you find exactly what you're looking for, and tell you plainly if something won't work for what you have in mind.

ABOUT THE SHOP

Tucked into the heart of Brighton's North Laines, Cloth Control has been part of the neighbourhood's fabric - quite literally - since opening in 2022. What started as a belief that good cloth shouldn't cost the earth has grown into the most comprehensive fabric shop the city has to offer.

Over one thousand fabrics sit within these walls, from the everyday to the extraordinary. Lengths of hand block-printed Indigo cotton from India. Bolts of Ikat - each one uniquely imperfect by nature of how it's made. African Wax Cotton in prints you won't find on any high street. Linens that drape beautifully. Sequins for the brave. Haberdashery for the finishers.

We are also Brighton's only stockist of yarn - a quieter corner of the shop that has earned its own loyal following among knitters who know that the staff here understand fibre the way most shops simply don't.

Our windows have become something of a local landmark. Award-winning, seasonally reimagined, and always worth stopping for - even if you weren't planning to come in. You usually end up coming in.
